Ministry Burnout / Compassion Fatigue

Overview:

Ministry burnout and compassion fatigue occur when prolonged emotional, spiritual, and relational labor leads to depletion. Scripture honors sacrificial service but also warns against striving in the flesh, neglecting rest, or losing the joy of one’s calling (Galatians 6:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:13). Even spiritual leaders like Elijah (1 Kings 19) experienced exhaustion and despair. God’s remedy involves rest, refocus, and reliance—not withdrawal or shame.
